Papangu’s Holoceno Is Unstable, Focused, and Worth the Seven Years It Took to Make. Don’t Make Us Wait That Long Again.

Sorcerer-like figure conjures ghostly spirit from a smoking chalice.

Holoceno doesn’t fit cleanly into any particular genre, it’s several of them. It’s progressive and light at times, a bit noisy and pretty brutal in others. The sudden shifts in tone and pacing feel intentional, but the overall structure is unpredictable. So of course I liked this one. Also, damn I love the album art.

In the description for this, it said that it the album was 7 years in the making – you can hear it in the care that’s given to all the details but I really hope we don’t have to wait another 7 for a follow-up.

This is a fascinating album. If you like your music abrasive, unpredictable, with moments of serious and silly interweaving then Holoceno is worth a listen. Go and check it out on BandCamp.
