Rye’s Знание Breaks My Usual Listening Habits with Bleak, Slow Soundscapes

What looks to be a drawing of a wolf eating the sun.

It’s after albums like this that make we wonder what it is exactly that makes me like a certain album. There are some out there they I should like that just don’t do it for me, and others that don’t fit the mold of things that I like but end up somewhere in my rotation.

Знание is one of those that don’t fit my usual style – slow, bleak, and heavy album that blends black metal, doom, and dark ambient into something that felt great listening to while walking through the woods walking my dog. The production is raw but clear—nothing feels over-polished, and that works in its favor. The atmosphere is cold and oppressive, with a strong sense of isolation..

It feels like it has a lot of grief, frustration, exhaustion. The guitars are deliberate, often stretching into long, repetitive passages that reinforce the mood rather than push forward momentum.

This is one album I’ll drop into my playlist of things to listen to in the background while I’m working.
