I like to go take long walks with my dog to get him outside and I typically listen a new album every time I’m out there.
Yesterday, Deafheaven‘s newest album “Lonely People with Power” popped up in my list of new releases and, just like every other album they’ve released since the beginning, I tried to give this one a listen in the hopes that I might enjoy it.
This album reminds me exactly of their first one – generic, lacking sole and repetitive with very little creativity. I don’t even know why I keep giving them a listen – maybe it’s because there are other internet people that keep calling it good – but I just cannot get into it.
Apologies to everyone in the band – listen, ya’ll have skills and people like what you do. If I could even pick up and play an instrument I’d be proud to create something like what you all have done.
I listened to this album, in total, for about 10 minutes and skipped around songs and found more of the same.
Somebody let me know what I’m missing!? Point me to a good song / album and change my mind.
So that left me with an hour walk with only 10 minutes of music to listen to – so I checked the list of new releases but there were slim pickings left.
So what did I give a listen to instead? The new Cradle of Filth. A band that I find a bit too gothic for my liking and one that I’ve skipped listening to their last 10 releases (probably) – and you know what? Even though they are not my vibe, all I could think about was just how much better they were than Deafheaven – creative, fun and sometimes weird. Would I listen to it again? No, but it was better than listening to more Deafheaven.
So thank you for that.
